Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in accounts and bookkeeping services?
Accounts and bookkeeping services typically include maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, reconciling bank accounts, preparing VAT returns, managing payroll, producing management accounts, preparing annual accounts, and ensuring compliance with HMRC and Companies House requirements. Our on-demand UK-based service provides comprehensive support tailored to your business needs, helping you save time and ensure accuracy in your financial records.
How much do bookkeeping services cost?
Bookkeeping service costs vary depending on the volume of transactions, complexity of your business, frequency of service required, and specific services needed. We offer flexible pricing based on your requirements, from basic bookkeeping to comprehensive accounts management. Contact us for a tailored quote based on your business size and needs. Our transparent pricing ensures you know exactly what you're paying for.
Do I need a bookkeeper if I use accounting software?
While accounting software like Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks helps automate many tasks, a professional bookkeeper ensures transactions are correctly categorised, reconciliations are accurate, VAT returns are properly prepared, and your records comply with UK accounting standards. A bookkeeper can also help you understand your financial position, identify issues early, and ensure you're claiming all available deductions. Software is a tool, but professional expertise ensures accuracy and compliance.
How often should I update my bookkeeping?
For most businesses, monthly bookkeeping is recommended to maintain accurate records, stay on top of cash flow, and ensure timely VAT return preparation. However, some businesses with high transaction volumes may benefit from weekly or even daily updates. We can work with you to determine the optimal frequency based on your business needs and ensure your records are always up to date.
What is the difference between bookkeeping and accounting?
Bookkeeping involves recording day-to-day financial transactions, maintaining ledgers, and ensuring all transactions are properly documented. Accounting involves interpreting, analysing, and summarising financial data to produce financial statements, provide business insights, and ensure compliance with accounting standards. Bookkeeping is the foundation of accounting - accurate bookkeeping enables meaningful accounting analysis and reporting.
Can you help with Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance?
Yes. Making Tax Digital is now a major part of our work. MTD for VAT applies to all VAT-registered businesses, and MTD for Income Tax went live on 6 April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 (extending to over £30,000 from April 2027 and over £20,000 from April 2028). We set up MTD-compatible software, maintain digital records, prepare and submit quarterly updates and VAT returns, and keep you compliant as the rules extend to more taxpayers.
When are my company accounts due?
Private companies must file accounts at Companies House within 9 months of their year end (21 months from incorporation for a company's first accounts). Corporation tax is normally payable 9 months and 1 day after the year end, and the CT600 return is due within 12 months. We track every deadline for you and send reminders well in advance, so late filing penalties never become an issue.
